More than 3,000 new beds will be available to visitors and tourists in the region of Ayia Napa and Protaras, the two most famous and popular summer resorts in Cyprus.
The fact that all these beds are ready way ahead from the advent of summer allows for tourist offices and travellers alike to make their arrangements and find excellent accommodation at favourable prices even one or two months before the peak season.
The head of the Famagusta Tourism Development Board, Lakis Avraamides, commented that this year, they anticipate the availability of at least 3,000 new beds in the broader Famagusta area. Of this number, approximately 2,000 concern Ayia Napa and around 1,000 the Protaras district.
Ayia Napa and Protaras have seen a surge of several new accommodation units, as well as the upgrading or renovation and extension of numerous others, have intensified. In fact, most of the construction and renovation work had started even before the end of the 2017 peak season.
Still, as said by Mr Avraamides, it is a bit early to make an accurate estimation of the number of visitors that will eventually come to the Famagusta district in this summer. Based on the data available by tourist agencies so far, one thing is for certain – that the overall number will be far greater than in 2017.
Let it be noted that the total number of tourists arriving in Cyprus last year was already greater by 15% compared to 2016 figures – which was also a record for the island!
The amazing landscape, unmatched waters, fabulous climate and famed local hospitality of Ayia Napa and Protaras, combined with the improved promotion abroad of the advantages of the area as a summer destination has led to a staggering, and ever rising, increase of the numbers of visitors flooding the area each year.
