Find out the Perfect Spots for Snorkeling in the island

The beautiful beaches and coves of Cyprus are certainly where you’ll want to spend a lot of time whether you’re visiting for a holiday, or you’re a Cyprus resident. Perhaps you’re looking to relax and unwind, soaking up the panoramic sea views, getting lost in a good book. Or maybe you’re looking for excitement with some high adrenaline water sports or fun beach games. There’s always something to do in and around the sea in Cyprus where the water is pleasantly warm and crystal clear, and what better to do with your time than to discover an underwater world while snorkelling!

Cyprus is perfect for both diving and snorkelling and you’ll see many people enjoying their time in the sea with their snorkel masks and flippers on! We all know that Cyprus is magnificent from above the water, but there’s a whole extra world of wonders just waiting to be discovered under the surface. Take a waterproof camera, and you could even get some amazing photos.

With coral reefs to explore, you can expect to see some amazing marine creatures such as sea urchins, starfish and Poseidon’s meadows. Groupers and wrasse are commonly spotted and if you’re lucky, your exploration could be rewarded with a glimpse of the rare green turtles and loggerhead turtles that visit the island to lay their eggs.

So where are the best places to go snorkelling in Cyprus? Here are some of our favourite spots that are wonderful for snorkellers…

Akamas

Aphrodite Baths Beach, Chrysohous Bay – Akamas

The idyllic Aphrodite Baths Beach is a lovely place for snorkelling. If you’re visiting with someone who prefers to sunbathe, there’s a great spot with sun loungers for them, while you head on to the cliffs where the fish gather in the shallow waters making it an interesting snorkelling site.

Ayia Napa

Cape Greco – Ayia Napa

From the Agioi Anargyri chapel, head down the steps to the sea. You’ll find the water here is warm and crystal clear, with all sorts of alcoves within the limestone cliff walls to explore. Who knows what wonders you’ll see? Turtles and moray eels are often spotted here.

White Rocks, Governor’s Beach – Limassol

This unspoilt section of chalk coastline has some amazing coves with great snorkelling opportunities. Don’t be surprised if you spot sea bream or sea bass, they sometimes escape from the nearby fish farms!

Manolis Bay – Akamas

Getting to Manolis Bay takes a little effort. You’ll need a 4x4 or you can rent a boat from Latchi harbour. The effort is well worth it though, as the scenery is spectacular, and being off the beaten track, you’ll find the bay peaceful and tranquil. You can snorkel in the sea caves here and spot the colour-changing trumpet fish.
