Discover the Troodos Trails

Discover the Troodos Trails

The Troodos mountains are breathtakingly beautiful so on any visit to Cyprus you should take the time to explore some of the hiking trails that wind their way around the mountains. With magnificent waterfalls, surprising architectural delights and rare flora and fauna to discover along the way, there’s always a surprise on your route. Hiking the Troodos Trails is relatively easy and you’ll find trails of differing lengths so you can choose the right one for you. Here are four of our favourite Troodos Trails that we think you will love too…

The Persephone Trail

The Persephone Trail

This 3km linear trail is an easy walk that will take you about an hour. If you’re not an avid hiker, or you simply want a walk that won’t take too long, then this a great option for you. The trail begins 150m south of Troodos Square, just head towards the police station and you’ll find the start of the trail. This beautiful trail takes you into the heart of the pine forest, then you’ll emerge from the forest to be rewarded with the amazing views at Makria Kontarka.

The Atalanti Trail

The Atalanti Trail is quite long at 14km but it isn’t too challenging. It’s a circular trail, starting and ending at Troodos Square. Along the way look out for the 800 year old Foetid Juniper tree, one of the largest trees in Cyprus, and the entrance tunnel to the chrome mine. You’ll also get to admire some fantastic views.

The Psilodentro Pouziaris Trail

The Psilodentro Pouziaris Trail

Another circular trail, this 9km trail is a more challenging route reaching a higher altitude with the most stunning panoramic views. The trail starts at the crossing of the Platres - Mesa Potamas road and the Moniatis – Platres road.

The Kalidonia Trail

The Kalidonia Trail

The Kalidonia Trail is short but quite a challenge. It’s just 3km in length and runs alongside the Cold River, bringing you to the Kalaedonia Waterfalls and ending in Pano Platres. A beautiful, tranquil route that is filled with unspoilt natural beauty.

Beautiful hikes all year round

One of the best things about Cyprus is that there is so much to see and do all year round. In the height of summer, a stroll under the shelter of the pine forest can be a lovely break from the heat of the beaches, then in winter you have the chance to explore the trails when the snow has fallen, creating a magical winter wonderland. There’s never a time of year when Cyprus isn’t beautiful, so why not make Cyprus your home so you can explore the Troodos mountains in every season?
